The Uncharted Series of Games for Sony’s New PS Vita

New Uncharted Games

Sony’s new games player is due for release in December in Japan and in early 2012 in other regions.  The player has the entire gaming community on edge and promises to be something really special.  One of the main preoccupations of the anxious gamers is the games which will be available for the new machine.  Thankfully, one of the best action adventure games available – the Uncharted series is playable on the new machine.  Two new Uncharted games are in the pipeline, Uncharted: Drakes Deception and Uncharted: Golden Abyss.  Drake’s Deception is the third game in a series while Golden Abyss is a new game.

History

The game was developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment.  The first game, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune was published in 2007.  The second game, Uncharted: Among Thieves was published in 2009 and the third game in the series, Uncharted: Drakes Deception is to be released   in November 2011.  Uncharted: Golden Abyss, is not part of the original series but is a new game developed specifically for the PS Vita.  It will be available for the launch of the new player.

The Game

The Uncharted games are a top flight action adventure series which deal with the exploits of Nathan Drake, a modern day explorer and adventurer who searches for archaeological treasures and historical mysteries.  He has to contend with all manner of hardships and evil antagonists as he gets close to each discovery.  The protagonist may or may not be a descendent of Sir Francis Drake the explorer.

In the first game (Drake’s Fortune), a clue from the coffin of Sir Francis Drake sets Nathan off in search of the mythical El Dorado.  His quest lands him on an undiscovered island in the Pacific where he becomes stranded.  He and his companions are hunted by an evil group of bad guys and he needs all of his skill to evade capture and survive.  This is a single player game.

In the second game (Among Thieves), Drake is searching for the lost treasure of Marco Polo and the lost city of Shambhala.  He has to contend with a particularly nasty band of fellow treasure hunters and once again needs all of his skills and perseverance to come out on top.  This adventure sees most of the cast from the previous game with a few interesting new characters (like Chloe Frazer, an old flame of Nathan’s).  With this game the developer introduced multi-player functionality.

The third game (Drake’s Deception), deals with Nathan’s search for a hidden city in the Arabian desert.  He has to contend with a dark occult organization intent on his destruction and once again the scenario descends into a desperate struggle for survival for Drake and his companions.  The game focuses on his relationship with his old mentor and father figure, Sully Sullivan.

The Golden Abyss is set at a time before the events of first game but the developer is at pains to point out that it is not a prequel.  It is an entirely stand-alone adventure.  As stated above, this game is being developed for the PS Vita and will make use of all of the advanced features of this player.

Movements made possible in these games are complex and comprehensive.  The proponent is able to jump, swing, crawl, grab and a lot more.  The player is allowed to carry and use a small collection of weapons (pistol, rifle and grenades).  These are picked up from downed enemy combatants.

The settings for the adventures are in gorgeous Technicolor and include forests, snow, desert sand and urban landscapes.

Modes

The first game in the series is a single player game but all subsequent games are single, multi-player, competitive or co-operative and may be played online.
